Curved Air – Phantasmagoria

Limited green splatter vinyl LP pressing. Released in 1972, Phantasmagoria is the third studio album by British progressive rock pioneers Curved Air, and arguably their most ambitious and artistically refined work. The album blends classical influences, psychedelic textures, and early electronic experimentation into a cohesive and theatrical sonic journey. Lead vocalist Sonja Kristina delivers haunting, expressive performances, enhanced by the innovative use of vocal processing and synthesizers. Violinist Darryl Way and keyboardist/guitarist Francis Monkman drive the album's dynamic range, from baroque flourishes to avant-garde soundscapes. The rhythm section, featuring Florian Pilkington-Miksa and Mike Wedgwood, anchors the compositions with precision and flair. Phantasmagoria showcases the band's ability to merge complexity with accessibility, offering both cerebral depth and melodic immediacy. It's release marked a high point in Curved Air's early catalog, reaching No. 20 on the UK charts and earning critical acclaim for it's originality. Ideal for collectors of classic prog, psych rarities, and genre-defying albums, this LP remains a cult favorite. Whether rediscovered or experienced for the first time, Phantasmagoria stands as a bold statement of musical imagination and technical brilliance.
