Aynsley Dunbar – Blue Whale

The iconic British drummer's bold second album returns on 180-gram black vinyl, in a premium edition, sharper and more powerful than ever. Restored & remastered from the original tapes by Nick Robbins, this edition includes a new and insightful essay by author & music journalist Kevin Le Gendre. The LP features the original sleeve and artwork meticulously recreated with a sleek matte laminate finish and comes with a double-sided printed insert.Liverpool-born drummer Aynsley Dunbar was one of the most respected musicians on the international late '60s rock scene. His collaborations with trailblazers like John Mayall, David Bowie, Lou Reed, and his long-running work with Frank Zappa cemented his legacy as one of rock's most influential drummers.Recorded in 1971, Blue Whale sees Dunbar diving into a fusion of progressive rock and psychedelia, echoing the surreal wit and sharp satire of Frank Zappa. A standout moment? A fiery take on Zappa's classic 'Willie The Pimp.' Backed by a powerhouse lineup-including guitarists Ivan Zagni and Roger Sutton, bassist Peter Friedberg, pianist-organist Tommy Eyre, and vocalist Paul Williams-Dunbar reaches a creative high point, delivering an electrifying and adventurous set.The newly remastered Blue Whale brings one of Aynsley Dunbar's finest moments back into the spotlight. A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 2017, Dunbar's brilliance shines through on this album-sounding just as bold and fresh 50 years later.
