Gong – MAGICK BROTHER

The First Ever Gong Album - Magick Brother Returns in a Premium ReissueLP pressed on 180-gram vinylRestored & remastered from the original tapes by Nick Robbins: the iconic album in it's best-ever sound qualityNew & insightful essay by author & music journalist Kevin Le GendreOriginal gatefold sleeve and artwork meticulously recreated with a sleek matte laminate finish and includes a double-sided insertGong's mesmerizing 1969 debut, Magick Brother, is a trippy, socially conscious psychedelic rock masterpiece. Formed in Paris by the irrepressible Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth amid the city's political turmoil, Gong took shape with saxophonist Didier Malherbe, bassist Christian Tritsch, and drummer Rachid Houari. Recorded for BYG, the album also features jazz greats Barre Phillips, Earl Freeman, and Burton Greene, whose contributions add an extra layer of depth and texture to the band's already unconventional sound. The album reflects shifting moods, from the piercing energy of dawn to the dreamy, ethereal soundscapes that drift into the unknown. Acoustic guitars, celestial flutes, and hypnotic vocals blend into a sound both rooted in the psychedelic era and completely untethered from earthly constraints. The contrasts within the album mirror Gong's experimental spirit-melding serene, meditative moments with bursts of wild, unfiltered creativity. With it's dreamlike mix of cosmic atmospheres, poetic lyricism, and sharp political statements, Magick Brother introduced Gong as one of the great oddities of the psychedelic and space rock era. Now remastered, this edition brings new clarity to every track on the album, allowing it's cosmic energy and avant-garde brilliance to shine brighter than ever. Ments that comes through loud and clear on this re-mastered version of Gong's debut album... Kevin Le Gendre"
